Tomorrow we must pop up like daisies and flood the poles with votes for the Republican ticket -- the entire ticket.
Vincent Sheheen has absolutely nothing to offer South Carolina. I heard him speak at the Columbia Rotary Club on October 11 (video available at http://www.columbiarotaryclub.org/ -- click on Meetings). He said several times that he would not raise our taxes, then proceeded to explain how he would spend money SC does not have to improve our economic situation. Everything he had to say began and ended with a government program. He cannot possibly implement his agenda without raising taxes. The man is absolutely giddy about his role in bringing stimulus money to SC -- money we will have to tax ourselves heavily to pay back. Vincent Sheheen is a typical Democrat with a typical tax-and-spend agenda. Worse, he supports Obama policies and will not lift a finger to defend our state's rights against federal encroachment.
Nikki Haley (who spoke to the club October 18) understands that the private sector, and specifically small businesses, provide the bulk of the jobs in SC. She proposes to nurture the business environment through tax reform and regulatory reform to make SC attractive to businesses of all sizes. Her plan begins with the private sector, and includes supportive government policies. She will also seek to reduce the size of government and make it more efficient.
The choice could not be more clear, and I urge all of you to disregard the clever Dem marketing that attempts to drive a wedge between Haley and business conservatives. One more telling indicator: a trial lawyer like Sheheen is trained to discredit his opponent if the case cannot be won on its merits. Indeed, that is precisely what he has tried to do to Haley in every possible way and at every possible turn. Have you seen any commercials touting his ideas? I have not; all just throw garbage at Haley.
This election will determine the future of SC for a generation; with fiscal solvency and re-districting imminent, we MUST elect Republicans to all the constitutional offices, including governor.
